Reverend T. E. Simmons is a native of Aiken County, South Carolina. He is the 19th child of the late Reverend J. J. Simmons and Effie Mae Toney Simmons. Reverend Simmons is married to Angela Carter Simmons and this union is blessed with three daughters; Lacey, and twins; Adriann and Amanda.
Reverend Simmons is a 1975 graduate of Aiken High School of Aiken, South Carolina; a 1979 graduate of South Carolina State University of Orangeburg, South Carolina; and a 1990 graduate of the Interdenominational Theological Center-Morehouse School of Religion of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, he has completed studies at the Billy Graham School of Evangelism in Wheaton, Illinois and the Institute of Church Administration and Management of Atlanta, Georgia. He is presently pursuing Doctors in Ministry degree from the interdenominational Theological Center Morehouse School of religion. In May of 2006 he received an honorary Doctorate Degree from the N.J. Brockman School of Religion.
Upon completing his studies at South Carolina State University in 1979, he was employed by W. R. Grace & Company, Cryovac Division, Simpsonville, South Carolina. In 1983, he was called into the Gospel Ministry and licensed in July 1983 by the Summer Grove Baptist Church of Aiken County in South Carolina and the Reedy River Baptist Church of Mauldin, South Carolina. Later in 1983, he was called to Pastor the Reedy Fork Baptist Church of Simpsonville, South Carolina where he continues to serve. In 1987, Pastor Simmons became the full time Pastor of the Reedy Fork Baptist Church. Under his divine leadership, our membership has increased over 75%. In addition, the Church has grown spiritual and in assets, which includes a 1.8 million dollars facility consisting of 28.286 square feet of Administration, Educational, and Family Life Center.
Reverend Simmons is affiliated with the Reedy River Baptist Association and its auxiliaries, the Baptist E & M Convention of South Carolina, and the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. and its auxiliaries.
Presently he serves as Moderator of the Reedy River Baptist Association, Regional Vice-President of the Baptist E&M Convention of S.C. Region 4, Board member of the Greenville Hospital System Board of Trustees, Board Chairman of the Reedy Fork Center for Community Development, and Committee member of the MaHarry/Vanderbilt HIV/AIDS Taskforce.
He is the past Moderator of the Reedy River Baptist Union of Churches, Past Board Member of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc., Past Secretary of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. Church Planting Commission, Former Chairman of the Board of the Greenville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Former Chairman of the Housing Corporation and Senior Housing Corporation for the Urban League of the Upstate, Former Member of the Greenville Hospital System C. P. E. Advisory Board, Former Executive Assistant to President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., Former Committee Member of the Heritage Roundtable, Former Board Member of Community Planning Commission, Former Board Member of the Greenville Y. M. C. A., Board Member of the Home Health Advisory Committee, Board member of the Alliance of Quality Education, Board Member of the United Way Helping Youth Succeed, Co-Chair of Graduate Greenville Team-2, Board Member of Greenville Conventions and Visitors Bureau, Board Member of Greenville Technical College Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee, Board Member of the Mentoring Group, Former Instructor at the N.J. Brockman School Of Religion Greenville SC., and Former Member of the Church and Community Human Relations Committee.
He is an avid lover of horses, nature, and outdoors. Reverend Simmons is involved as a role model, a volunteer storyteller, and in various other capacities at the schools within the Simpsonville and Greenville Communities. His accolades and accomplishments are numerous.
